At the moment, the Mini Chow Chow (Baby Chow) breed is not recognized in the FCI system (RKF). Mini Chow Chow is no different from regular Chow Chow. The only difference is the size and weight, which is almost half that of their standard ancestors. These funny dogs were obtained by selecting the Chow Chow and Spitz breeds. BUT! One of the breeders of the Mini Chow Chow breed, Mr. Vetansal Tevosafi, said that Mini Chow Chows should in no case be the size of a German or Pomeranian Spitz. Mini Chow Chows are not large, but rather strongly built dogs, weight 8-18 kg, height from 32 cm to 38 cm.
All deviations from this description are considered undesirable for the Mini Chow Chow breed. Temperament: moderately active. A confident dog with self-esteem.

Personality: Good-natured. But be careful around strangers. They do not become friends with a person whom they see for the first or second time. They can exhibit guard qualities. The expressed character traits of the Mini Chow Chow are loyalty and devotion to one owner, despite the fact that in a large family he respects and loves everyone. Knows how to independently make a decision in a difficult situation (how to get over a large puddle without getting your paws wet, or which side to jump over a hole on) In China, the Mini Chow Chow is called the “Thinking Dog”. Mini Chow Chows love outdoor games and enjoy training sessions. The commands are quite easy to learn. Capable of long walks and sports. Mini Chow Chows are not against living together with another dog or cat, but they maintain a neutral position in relationships. Characterized as a companion dog.

Head: Medium size, with small elements of dampness on the forehead and cheeks. The skull is wide, flat, with developed brow ridges. the transition from forehead to muzzle (stop) is clearly defined, but not sharp. The muzzle is of medium length, wide from the base to the tip of the nose. A muzzle that is too long, narrowed, or too short (Pekingese), a light, poorly developed chin are not desirable deviations for the Mini Chow Chow breed. Eyes: medium size, oval in shape, dark in color. In cinnamon and blue dogs, eye color is allowed to match the color. Large, round, bulging eyes are considered unacceptable for the Mini Chow Chow breed. Ears: Not large, set wide apart. Hanging ears, too close or low set ears are not acceptable for the Mini Chow Chow breed.

Nose: medium size, black. Blue and cinnamon colors have a nose that matches the coat. In cream dogs, lightening of the nose is allowed. A pink nose and pink spots on the nose are not acceptable for the Mini Chow Chow breed. Lips: close-fitting, black.

Tongue: Purple-blue. In blue, cinnamon and cream colors, the tongue and lips are always lighter and have light purple or lilac shades. A pink tongue, large pink spots on the tongue, and pink lips are considered unacceptable for the Mini Chow Chow breed.

Teeth: straight, scissor bite. Overshot, undershot, underdeveloped jaws are considered undesirable deviations for this breed.

Neck: strong, slightly arched, which gives the Mini Chow a proud appearance. A neck that is too long or too short is not desirable for the breed.

Body: Back straight, strong. The lower back is strong. The chest is deep and quite wide. The ribs are well defined, but not barrel-shaped. Not desirable: long back. A stretched, domed, or too short lower back. Barrel ribs.

Tail: Set high, lying tightly on the back, covered with longer and denser hair. It is not advisable to have a low-set tail or for the dog to wear it down.

Forelegs: straight, bony, parallel. Shoulders are muscular and sloping. The pasterns are vertical, the toes are closely closed. It is not permissible for the Mini Chow Chow breed to have too long or too short limbs that lead to disproportion with the body. Weak or slanted pasterns, loose fingers.

Hindquarters: Muscular with minimal angulation of the hocks. The length of the thigh and lower leg are approximately the same. The metatarsus are vertical. The limbs are parallel to each other. The paw set is quite wide. The paws are rounded, the toes are closely closed. X-shaped, barrel-shaped, saber-shaped limbs, with pronounced hocks, and loose toes are considered a deviation for this breed.

Gait: temperamental, proud. Ambling, unsteady, unsure gait is considered a deviation for the Mini Chow Chow breed.

Wool: 2 types. Long-haired and short-haired.
Long-haired type: The coat is thick, abundant, straight, and has a pleasant texture. The guard hairs are of different lengths. The undercoat is thick and soft. Around the neck, on the back of the thighs and on the tail, the fur forms thick, decorative feathers. The presence or absence of a mane is not important.
Short-haired type: The coat is shorter than that of long-haired dogs. The spine is also abundant, dense, and straight. The guard hair is thick, plush, and not adjacent. The undercoat is short and well developed. It is considered unacceptable for the breed: Curly or too soft (wadding), too short, and smooth coat. Bald patches. Absence or poverty of undercoat. dull and thin wool.

Mini Chow Chow color
Red and all shades of red from brick red to cream, as well as cinnamon, black, blue, (all shades of blue from dark to light blue are considered normal. All colors have lighter fur in the chest, tail, back hips and stomach. Mini Chow Chow puppies are red in color; when they are children, they have black masks on their faces, which turn red with age.
